Hand-knotted Rugs

This exquisite collection of hand-knotted rugs from India features not only today’s most dramatic designs and colorations but uses the finest hand-spun wool to enhance and emphasize the visual impact of each rug. Hand-spun yarn is a labor intensive and time consuming process as each spinner produces less than a pound of finished yarn per day.

The spinning process has been handed down from generation to generation using the same time-honored techniques. This unusually textured yarn consists of five different seasonal shearing. This combination of seasonal wool, which differ in density, weight, color, length and thickness produce an inconsistent level of color as it is dyed. This inconsistency of color produces a rug, which has both a natural ahbrashed effect and an authentic, antique or "old" look. This look is extremely popular in today’s decorating schemes.

Hand-spinning of the yarn gives it additional tensile strength increasing the longevity of the rug. It can be washed more often; wears better; lasts longer; looks mo0re beautiful as a time passes and is intrinsically a much finer rug. The stronger and more vibrant chrome dyes used to color this yarn are inspired by natural spices, herbs and vegetables which is the current trend in colorizing hand-knotted rugs.

The knotting of these rugs is also extremely fine which explains the magnificent definition of pattern and thickness of pile. The knot count per square foot is pproximately 11,664. Lastly, the crowning touch of final finish wash is accomplished using 12 different natural herbs such as henna, madder, walnut husk, indigo, fera, tea, roots etc. This herbal wash gives each rug a distinctive, aged or antique look. The warmth and character of this rugs is exemplified by the unique blending of hand-spun wool, colors, herbal wash and densely hand-knotted pile. These rugs are truly recognized as the cutting edge leaders in today’s fashion conscious furnishing industry.
